12 Tags of Christmas #7 – Funkie Junkie Style

Plaid, oh plaid, oh plaid! Hello to everyone as we embark on Thanksgiving week. This week brings a mix of Christmas and Thanksgiving to the house. Even though I have all of my autumn decorations out, some small bits of Christmas start to appear. Kind of crisscrossed like this week’s tag! So, here is tag #7 in the 12 Tags of Christmas – Funkie Junkie style! The challenge is generously sponsored by the Funkie Junkie Boutique and there is still time to join in the fun so long as you follow all of the guidelines found in Week #1’s post on Linda’s blog.

Linda’s Tag #7 inspired me to use plaid and I chose a plaid paper that matches my puppy dog’s soft harness jacket. I will say I loved Linda’s poinsettia and that almost beat out the plaid inspiration! I then grabbed some chipboard and cut out a deer using the Tim Holtz Sizzix Prancing Deer die. I wanted a bit of a rustic deer so I coated it with Distress Grit-Paste and when it was dry I painted various layers on the deer using Gathered Twigs, Walnut Stain, and Ground Espresso Distress Paint. To color the edges of the deer I used Gathered Twigs Distress Ink Pen. For the deer’s antlers I coated them in Distress Glitter Vintage Photo.

Next I found an old piece of last year’s Tim Holtz Christmas paper stash and cut out the red label. I used a remnant rub for the season’s greetings (the new remnant rubs). The greenery was added using Peeled Paint and Forest Moss Coredinations paper and the Tim Holtz Sizzix Holiday Greens die cut. To add some depth to the greenery (it’s hard to pick up in the photo but it’s neat in real-life), I took a Green Glitter Wink of Stella brush pen and feathered on some glitter. The green added another color to the greenery and gave it some shimmer.

To finish off the tag, I grabbed some Tim Holtz tinsel for the deer, a Tim Holtz numbered brad, an a tiny bell from the Funkie Junkie Boutique and put them all in their place! I hope you enjoy my tag and you get some time to create your own before all of the happenings of the season overtake all of our spare time!

This is wonderful! Great plaid paper - so bold and red :) You did a fantastic job on the deer with the color variations and the subtle sparkle. My apologies for being so slow to comment. I just don't know where the days go at this time of the year! I hope you are enjoying the Christmas season.

Hugs, Linda

Love your rustic tag! The plaid background is the perfect backdrop to that fabulous deer die cut! Beautifully colored and textured, he almost looks embossed! The touch of shimmer on the greens is gorgeous! Hugs!
