12 Tags of Christmas #8 – Funkie Junkie Style

Hello! I’ve managed another tag and just before Thanksgiving too! Today I’m sharing with you tag #8 in the 12 Tags of Christmas – Funkie Junkie Style. The challenge is still open to anyone who wants to join in and you can find the rules on Linda’s blog. The challenge is sponsored by the Funkie Junkie Boutique.

Tag #8 for Linda’s challenge involved a set of colors she doesn’t normally use. I was inspired by her to use a color that I’m hesitant to work with and to use snowflakes.

I took a foil adhesive sheet and embossed snowflakes on it using the Tim Holtz Snow Flurries texture fade. I attached the foil adhesive to a tag and then used Distress Paint in Cracked Pistachio to paint the foil. I used an alcohol ink felt applicator piece to brush off the excess paint. For the snowflakes I wanted to use an alcohol ink but wasn’t sure what color. When I got out my alcohol inks I decided on Gold. At first I used a felt applicator to put on the alcohol ink but then decided a q-tip was easier to use.

I used the Tim Holtz deco tape in Gold to cover the top and bottom of the tag. It sure would be helpful of those foil adhesive sheets were the size of a #8 tag but they are just a pinch too short. When it came time to work on the rest of the tag I tried a couple of different ideas before settling on another snowflake. I used the Tim Holtz Sizzix Layered Snowflake die and texture fad (I’ve had this for a bit but never opened it – so it was brand new for me to use!). Again, I grabbed another foil sheet and some manila card stock to create the snowflake and used Cracked Pistachio and Gold Mixative to color it. To add some texture and a bit of glimmer to the snowflake, when the Cracked Pistachio paint was still a little wet I lightly spread some Distress Glitter (Clear Rocky Candy) over it. Some of the glitter was colored by the Gold Mixative but that was okay. In the light, you can still pick up a bit of glitter!

I used the Gold Mixative for the Tim Holtz holiday word band after I filled in the letters with Cracked Pistachio paint. I attached it with some gold wire. And, I added a Tim Holtz Snowflake to the middle of the big snowflake that was colored with the Gold Mixative.

I’m now almost caught up with Linda for the challenge. Hopefully I will be able to work on another tag over the long weekend even though decorating the house takes priority! If I don’t get the Christmas tree up this weekend, it simple won’t happen.

Again, I hope everyone has a lovely Thanksgiving holiday and that it is filled with family and/or friends and a lot of love. And, hopefully, no snow!

Drop dead GORGEOUS! I love the colors, the Cracked Pistachio looks amazing with the gold accents. I never would have thought about combining the two but WOW! You have a smash hit here, Ms. Inky Splatters! So great to have you back again for week #8.

Hugs, Linda
