Frilly & Funkie -- Enjoy Your Embossing #1 -- February, 2016

Snowy day.  Cruddy weather.  Me and the snow shovel.  I love winter but I hate shoveling snow.  I'm rearranging my craft room and I think to myself since I'm at home let's experiment with some alcohol inks.  I knew that the Frilly and Funkie blog challenge was about enjoying embossing but until i had a snow day I wasn't sure I could.  This challenge is graciously supported by The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

After shoveling the driveway and realizing that there was no way I was going to go anywhere anytime soon, I grabbed my alcohol inks, foil, gesso, and plugged in my embossing gun and off I went....since the time of year focuses on Valentine's Day I tried to figure out what I could do.

So, here is my ode to embossing in the theme of Valentine's Day.  I tried to use as many ideas as I could but also make it cohesive.   Emboss away.....

The process for this tag is after the photo.

Frilly & Funkie -- Enjoy Your Embossing #1 -- February, 2016

I started off with a #8 manila tag.  I cut a self-adhesive foil sheet in half and put one half on the top and bottom of the tag.  I embossed the foil sections with the Tim Holtz Regal Flourishes embossing folder.  I then coated the foil with Dina Wakley's white gesso.  Once that was dry, I used Raspberry, Red Pepper, and Wild Plum Alcohol Inks on the foil.  It  was a random pattern. I also squirted Liquid Pearls Perfect Pearl spray into it which created a bit of separation that looked like stained glass and yet a slight metallic look.  Once that was dry, I wanted to make it shiny so I used Versa Mark on the tag and embossed it with Clear Embossing Powder from Ranger.  It gave the tag a nice shiny look that I wanted.

Next I grabbed #25 Kraft-Core Classic Collection colored paper and used the heart from the Movers & Shapers Tim Holtz Mini Hearts die cut.  I sanded it  down and then colored it with Tim Holtz Wilted Violet Distress Ink.  I used UTEE (Ultra-Thick Embossing Powder) to emboss the hearts.  There were several layers of UTEE embossing.

Next I grabbed a Wild Orchid Crafts Paper Rose.  I found a hydrangea leaf and colored it with Wilted Violet Distress Ink.  The center of the tag was "open" so I used cork wired ribbon from The Funkie Junkie Boutique for the "middle band."  I glued the rose to it and to the tag.  I added some natural colored smaller roses and Wild Orchid Crafts Lilac colored stems.

I wanted to add some other embossing so I grabbed a #8 tag and the Tim Holtz Flourishes stencil.  I colored texture paste with Festive Berries Distress Spray Stain.  Once that was dry I die cut 2 hearts using the Tim Holtz Movers and Shapers Mini Hearts set.

Once I pieced it all together and glued it to the tag, I made some bows out of black twine.  Next, I used the Tim Holtz Celebrate Words Thinlit and Gemstones Cardstock (the non-metallic side) to die cut 'love" and "you."  The paper color is Amethyst.  "Forever" was cut from the Tim Holtz Friendship Words Script thinlit.  Once everything was attached, I used a Black Soot Distress Ink colored ribbon to finish it off.
