Daffodils and Shamrocks for a Challenge!

Spring is springing early here in our neck of the woods.  It’s very rare that the end of February brings us the first crocus peeping up out of the ground.  We saw that last weekend when we were out for a walk.  And, this week our neighbor’s daffodils were blooming.  Daffodils are one of my favorite springtime flowers and in March and April they are everywhere in England.  So this week’s tag focused on green as there is the arrival of Spring and on March 17th is St. Patrick’s Day.

I am submitting this tag for two challenges this week –

I tried a number of different things for this tag.  Different textures (metal, felt, cheesecloth, and the gems).  I played with alcohol inks and metallic DMC floss.   I also tried out my brand new Daffodil die!

Happy Spring and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

The products used for this tag follow the photo.

St Patrick's Day tag

I grabbed a #8 Manilla tag and covered in Authentique’s Charmed Two paper.  I used the Tim Holtz Doily Thinlit using G45’s Vintage Vignette paper.  Both were edged in Tim Holtz’s Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.  I cut out the “blessing”, the bingo card, and the green gingham from Authentique’s Charmed paper pack 6x6 (Charmed Three (both sides) and Charmed Six).  The Wearing of the Green card came from  Luna Girl Vintage Images.  All were distressed and “browned” down using Tim Holtz’s Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.

I had a paper shamrock from a gift from the Funkie Junkie and I traced it on to Green Felt, cut it out, and stitched the edge with DMC Floss E677 (Metallic Floss).  I attached the token with one of the new Tim Holtz hex fasteners.  The cheese cloth was sprayed with Tim Holtz’s Shabby Shutters Distress Spray Stain.  For the gems, I had some that were already the gold color but then took two of them and colored them with Pesto and Botanical colored Alcohol Inks.  I attached one for a Prima Vintage Trinket and the other to the new Tim Holtz Charms.  I also tracked down my stash of plaquettes and was lucky enough to find a #17 and closed the “holes” with two small black brads.

The daffodil was cut using Elizabeth Craft Designs die (Garden Notes – Daffodil).  I used a manila tag for the die cuts.  I colored the daffodil with the following Tim Holtz’s Distress Inks:  Forest Moss, Mustard See, and Spiced Marmalade.  I put it all together while I was waiting for the Distress Ink Peeled Paint Ink to dry for the ribbon.
