Tag #10 -- which means until tomorrow morning I'm caught up! Tag #10 is part of the 12 tags of Christmas sponsored by the Funkie Junkie Boutique. Linda's blog has all of the details, inspiration, and rules!
In Tag #10 Linda utilized metallic and texture paste. I was inspired to use texture paste as a background but not to use it as I would normally. I've primiarly used texture paste with stencils but today I decided to freehand it. I had no idea what it would look like and I was a bit hesitant about it. Initially I tried a gold embossing paste and that failed miserably. The gold was closer to a yellow color and I did not acheive the look I wanted. Round bin for that tag. So, I then decided texture paste it has to be and just settled with plain, white, normal texture paste. I probably should have tried that first and would have save myself some time.
I smeared the texture paste on the tag and set it aside to dry. I used the Tim Holtz reindeer die cut and the Tim Holtz metallic paper and cut out a reindeer. I used a bit of the tinsel and created a reindeer necklace with a jingle bell (from the 12 piece Christmas embellishments at the Funkie Junkie). I die cut the tree using the Tim Holtz tree die and the silver metallic paper. I took the sanding block to it to give it some texture. I'm not sure the texture shows up in the photograph but it does in person! I also used the thinlits Tim Holtz die for "noel."
After taking a walk with my beloved, I came back and looked at my dry texture paste and started to ink the edges with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. In the end I wound up inking the whole tag with Gathering Twigs distress ink. It reminds me a bit of campfires and marshmallows but I attached my reindeer, tree, and noel. Not bad for my first freehand texture paste on a tag project.
