I'm almost there! The 12 tags of Christmas sponsored by the Funkie Junkie Boutique is nearing its end. One more week! You can still join in so long as you follow the rules which can be found on Linda's blog. This will be my first Christmas tag challenge!
This week Linda posted a second textured tag but this time with snowflakes. It had a very wintery feel to it and was lovely. I started off thinking I wanted to try my hand at texture paste again but without even noticing it started to go the same direction I did for the snowflake tag I created earlier in the challenge. So, I decided to figure out a way to use snowflakes but in a different way from my earlier tag. Linda's tag inspired me to use layers of snowflakes as her tag had layered snowflakes too. And, as it happens, it was snowing outside! Where I live we can get those big, puffy, beautiful snowflakes. However, those snowflakes usually mean we're only going to get a little bit of snow. The old saying I grew up with (and it seems to hold true): big flakes, little snow; little flakes, big snow. This morning was no different.
My tag this week looks deceivingly simple but what a glitter mess I made. I think I'll be wearing glitter for a week! So when I started this tag I knew I wanted layered snowflakes but I didn't know how I was going to get there. It was one of those days where I just started to play with different things and followed wherever my brain took me. First step was to break out a Christmas red background using Fired Brick Distress Ink. It's a bit brighter than I normally go for a background but it's good for me to get out of my comfort box. Then came the glitter.....I used the new small snowflake/star stamp from the 2015 Christmas Tim Holtz stamps. I stamped the tag with Versa Mark in a graduated pattern. I then used the Red Tinsel Ranger Embossing powder. That was my first glitter pile. To be honest it was a bit difficult to see when it was embossed enough. With other colors you can see the change. Add glitter and it makes it a bit harder.
As I tried to figure out what I wanted to do next, I found 2 of the filigree snowflakes that I found in Linda's embellishment section for the Funkie Junkie Boutique. I then decided I would build on my snowflake and grabbed the magnetic Tim Holtz snowflake die. I die cut two manila snowflakes and pulled out the distress clear rock candy glitter. Glitter pile number 2. I coated them twice because I wanted them to look puffy or fuller. So, the second time I was a bit more "sloppy" with the multi medium matte and it worked. At first I was worried that it would just create a globby glitter mess but I was able to retain the form of the snowflake. I then added a clear acrylic snowflake that I found that the Funkie Junkie Boutique and put it on top. Each snowflake has three layers. I have a lot of glitter everywhere else except the jars from hence the glitter came.
Oh, but glitter fun is not yet over! I die cut a "wish" from the Tim Holtz die and pulled out Tim's new Distress Gold Glitter Dust. You have to be very careful with this glitter because it is super fine glitter and it seriously ends up everywhere. So there was glitter pile #3. Glitter pile #4 made its appearance when I had to pull out the Distress Gold glitter one more time because I missed a spot. To finish off the tag, I edged the tag with Distress Ink Gathered Twigs (although I should have done it before I glued down the snowflakes). I then found three of the snowflake charms from the Funkie Junkie Boutique, cut off the charm loop, and put them on the tag (one acting in place of the dot on the i). So, in the end I had a layered snowflake tag, it's different than the first snowflake tag I did, and I stretched my limits on using various forms of glitter.
Off to get the vacuum...
