I was inspired for this project by the Step-by-Step on the Frilly and Funkie Blog. I was excited to see the Tis the Season Challenge on the Frilly and Funkie Blog which would give me a chance to see what I could do. I went down into my basement and gathered a bunch of craft stuff that had been relegated to a pile for Goodwill or to be given to other crafty friends and rifled through it to find the bits and pieces for this project. Even the mailbox came from that pile. I'm not sure when I got it (or even if it was given to me) and figured now was the time to use it.
The mailbox started "kraft" colored and ended up looking like a mailbox. I used some new texture pastes to create the look and relied on Tim Holtz Spray Stains to achieve the look. Cricut cuts were used for the paper foliage as well as some Tim Holtz thinlits die cuts. Other bits and pieces of spays and picks from my local craft store were torn apart for the pieces I needed (or wanted). I even tracked down a package of cardinals and a nest to go with them. The Petaloo Poinsetta, velvet leaves, and sprigs of berries were "new."
If you want to join in the challenge you can visit the Frilly and Funkie blog. The challenge is sponsored by the Funkie Junkie Boutique.
I'm quite pleased with this project becuase I had no idea how the mailbox would turn out. It was a new technique but I went with it. I think this will make a lovely centerpiece for Christmas Dinner and Boxing Day!
