The current challenge on the Frilly and Funkie Blog is What a Mesh. The challenge is generously sponsored by the Funkie Junkie Boutique.
When I first saw the challenge I wondered what the heck I was going to do. I kept thinking of different things and then I veered off toward baseball. I’m not a huge baseball fan – it’s all a bit too slow paced for me. I did spent hours playing catch with my dad as a kid and all that practice means I’ve got a pretty darn good baseball pitch. I know just enough to get general trivia questions and know that the Chicago Cubs have waited over a century to take home a World Series Title. Each year when I run the Chicago Marathon “GO CUBS” is lit up on the roof of the Transamerica building and visible from the marathon start corrals and I think “maybe this year.” I thought the same when I was there this past October and finally 2016 was the year for the Cubs. So, my mesh is an ode to the 1908 Cubs – the guys who held the glory for Chicago for over a century and will soon fade away to make room for the new guys.
I tried to incorporate a several “meshes” – a canvas, a crinoline flower (Cubs in 1908 didn’t have red on their uniforms yet), and cheesecloth (kind of like an old net to catch the balls). I grabbed some paper from the Tim Holtz Dapper paper stash and although it isn’t historically accurate I thought the paper made a good baseball shirt. I found some images online of the 1908 Cubs team, a magazine with each team member on the front, the Cubs’ mascot image, and a ticket and score card for one of the games. I also found a picture of a signed baseball from the 1908 World Series. The red bottle cap is to represent a Coke bottle cap. No popcorn though.
Let’s hope the Cubs don’t wait another century to win the World Series!

I so appreciate your attention to detail. It's always a treat to visit your blog. Thanks for joining the fun and sharing it with us at the Frilly and Funkie "What a Mesh" challenge!
