Okay, so it’s definitely a heat wave here! Today was a bit of a struggle since it was so hot that my brain was just not working. I thought I might start the project for the current challenge on the Frilly & Funkie Blog – Pastels and Pearls. The challenge is sponsored by The Funkie Junkie Boutique. When I kept hitting a wall on what to do, I just took a break from my craft room and figured I had next week and weekend to work on it. So, I decided to check out some of my favorite blogs and just veg out.
I love Tammy Tutterow’s flowers and I had the pleasure of meeting with Tammy and taking one of her classes last year. I think the flowers are a lot of fun and, to me, very English. In all honesty I have not yet mastered how she uses the floral tape to wrap the stem but I keep trying! Lately, I’ve started playing around with the new dies that she has from Spellbinders (which you can order from The Funkie Junkie Boutique). Today, however, I stumbled on a blog post/tutorial from July 30, 2013 – way before I started on my crafting journey – on Love Struck Vintage Style Millinery. I figured I would give it a try…
The finished flower is shown in the head banner to this post.
I then decided that I could incorporate it into a tag for the Pastels and Pearls challenge. From the Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2016 – Tech Remix (June) I had a half-plaided dress form die cut. I dug through all of my stuff and found some pearls (I don’t seem to have a whole lot of those in my craftroom) and then worked on creating a pastel background and tag. I also took a chance and grabbed a Tim Holtz Philosophy Tag, covered it in white gesso, added some pink shebert alcohol ink and then used rubbing alcohol to wipe away the gesso the top but leave the color on the words. Seems to have worked!
It’s pretty pastel for me. I even hand wrapped the spool with DMC floss to get another pastel in there. I hope I have done Tammy’s Love Struck Millinery flower tutorial justice! Hop on over to her blog and check it out for yourself – even though there is sewing involved it’s pretty simple! And, the results are pretty fabulous! Tammy even used a similar flower on a fabric messenger bag.
Thank you for stopping by and checking out how I’m doing on my crafting journey. I appreciate and love to read all the comments so please let me know what you think. I hope my project has inspired you to pull out the crinoline, dies, needle, and thread to create your own flowers! And, this flower won’t wilt in the heat!
