After several wintry days (one of which involved a normal 20 minute drive home from work turning into a 2+ hour driving extravaganza in blizzard conditions), Easter Sunday was a bright, beautiful, blue sky day. It was warm enough and sunny enough to melt the snow off the branches of the bushes and trees that started to show the early signs of spring. As I peeked out into my garden late this morning, I notice my rhubarb poking up out of the snow. My garden beds are starting to show signs of being ready for their spring/summer soil turnover. My ornamental grasses as starting to sprout and my hostas and hops in the backyard are peeking through the soil. Spring is slowly springing here.
Each spring involves one of my very good friends and me making almost daily visits to the local greenhouses. We marvel at the new stuff that comes in each week but rely on the old standbys as well. We have such a short growing season that by February the two of us are already starting our plans on how each container, each garden patch, and each flower patch will look and figure out we can get as many veggies as we can mixed in with the flowers.
My plan for the Simon Says Monday Challenge (which is sponsored by Simon Says Stamp) was to make a card for her to tell her how much I appreciate her as a friend and as my gardening buddy. As the challenge called for food and/or drink – I incorporated both. I used veggie stamps for the food. And, for the first time in my crafting life, I tea stained a couple of manila tags for the backgrounds. The card has a touch of a mango hint to it since I happened to grab some Mango Ceylon tea from the cabinet this morning.
Off to go write her a note and continue to revise my garden plot maps! Happy Spring!
