Hello! I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving holiday! We had a lovely dinner with friends, I tried out new recipes, and my house is now all decked out for Christmas. It has been a busy weekend. I worked on the 12 Tags of Christmas – Funkie Junkie Style too! I’m a little bit behind but as long as I get them done by the end of the challenge it’s all good. The challenge is generously sponsored by the Funkie Junkie Boutique. You can find all of the rules and requirements on Linda’s blog. Today’s tag is inspired by Linda’s tag from Week #7.
Okay, so initially I was inspired to go to a blue scale on my tag but clearly it didn’t end up that way. I was also inspired to use a deer on my tag which is where I started and, ultimately, what dictated the background. I used the newest deer die cut by Tim Holtz which meant I had to break it out of the packaging! Up until this point I was looking at it and wondering how I was going to use it and since Linda’s tag inspired me to use a deer as the focal point naturally this was a great way to work in this new die cut. The more I worked with the deer I realized that I wanted a complimentary background and that meant going in a different direction from blue. And, luckily I had a tag background that was a “try but didn’t make the cut” tag from the Tim Holtz 12 Tags – Tech Remix (November).
In making the deer I used chipboard and blotted on the Distress Paint as I figured the chipboard could better absorb the multiple layers of paint. I used my finger to dot around areas on the horns for the embossing powder and even dusted some of it off to get a more uneven effect. I think next time I might try and use the grit paste and see what texture that helps create. I used the Distress Glaze to seal the background of the tag to limit the browns of the background changing the color of the snowflake paste. I used the distress crayons to give a bit more of depth to the edges of the deer. I think there will be some more projects with the deer – I wish I had opened the package sooner!
I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday weekend and I hope that you join in on Linda’s 12 tags of Christmas challenge. There is still time! It’s not Christmas yet. Here’s to tag #8…

And I love the vintage feel of the entire piece. Your falling snowflake dots are so perfectly arranged. I guess it is a stencil . It gives a charming country effect. Great job on Tag #7 - glad you had a nice Thanksgiving. We did too.
Hugs, Linda
