Frilly & Funkie Holiday Hues Challenge -- January, 2016

So, as I was putting away my Christmas/Holiday craft stuff and move toward late winter/early spring stuff I decided to make one more tag!  I know that it is still the depths of winter where I live but crafting moves before the seasons do and so it was time to put stuff back in its place in my craft room.  On the Frilly & Funkie Challenge Blog sponsored by The Funkie Junkie Boutique I found the current challenge gave the opportunity to create something from one of our favorite holidays.

In this case, I chose Christmas.   My house is always decorated on the inside with a beautiful tree (our neighbors bring gifts just to stop in and see it), there is garland on the stairways and mantles, and all around are little winter or Christmas settings.  There is garland on the outside of the house and the porch is decorated with a vintage sled and some trees, the outside is a bit more classic than some of our neighbors who create an electricity brown out when all of their lights go on.... 

While everything at the house this year focused in on a beautiful black and red houndstooth ribbon on the garland and a red, white, and black (yes, black which looked amazingly lovely when used in moderation and appropriately) decorated Christmas tree, my tag harkens back to a different set of colors that I love at Christmas.  I love the muted (or older, more worn) reds with cream and gold.  As I was making this tag, I found the ephemera piece for a Christmas film.  It made me think of a young girl going on a date to a film and making the right dress fo the occasion.  So, here is my holiday hues tag -- for the joy of Christmas past!

Details on my process (including my thought process) for the tag and the items used for the tag follow…

To make the tag, I used a 7 gypsies stamp and created the background.   I stamped it in Versa Mark and then embossed it in Princess Gold Embossing Powder.  The tag was then inked with Aged Mahogany Distress Ink and edged in Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.  I used KaiserCraft Pearls on the tag.  The pieces of greenery were cut from Tim Holtz dies and using Tim Holtz Nostalgic Collection paper using the green colors.  I sanded them down to give some kraft color to the greenery.  The poinsettia was cut from the Tim Holtz Bigz die in Tim Holtz Nostalgic Collection beige paper and some ecru textured cardstock I had in my paper stash.  The beige part of the poinsettia was edged in Tim Holtz Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.  The Ecru part of the poinsettia was stamped in Versa Mark with the Tim Holtz leaves stamp and then embossed in Princess Gold embossing powder to give the leaves some of that veiny look that poinsettias have.  I lightly distressed the edges of the ephemera and then edged them in Tim Holtz distress ink (Gathered Twigs).  Since I was going to the "date" theme I added the Tim Holtz film strip since the main piece of ephemera is for the film "The Christmas Spirit."  I added a key to get home.  At the top I focused in on her dress by adding a spool with some DMC thread added to it, some trading stamps ephemera, a corsage pin, a needle and some thread, and some red organza type ribbon (it was from the Funkie Junkie and was wired ribbon but I lopped off the wire and tucked it in as the fabric to be used for the dress).  I finished it off with Aged Mahogany inked ribbon.

I hope everyone has a lovely New Year!  It will now be about 10 months before I start digging through all of my craft stuff to find Christmas stuff again!
