Simon Says Stamp – Make Your Own Background

This week’s challenge on Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge involved Making Your Own Background.  I love creating backgrounds for my projects but many times I then look at a lovely background then think “now what?”  The challenge this week featured Darkroom Door stamps of which I didn’t have any.  I previously read a blog post about the stamps and was intrigued by the images in their lineup but had not yet had the chance to start acquiring them.  As many of you probably do – it’s all about budgeting for all of the lovely crafty things to fill our craft rooms and these stamps weren’t yet on the top of the list.  However, I cheated and I got a couple of them for this challenge – great excuse, huh?

Here is my background creation and then some added bits too!  I loved working with the stamps and can’t wait to get some more of them!

The products and process for the tag follow the photo.

Make Your Own Background

I started off with a #8 manila tag.  Next up was some Ranger Archival Jet Black Ink and parts of the Impression Obsession phrase stamp (#G17082).  I stamped the words and then embossed it with Ranger’s Clear embossing powder.  Next up was to stamp the images on the tag using two Darkroom Door texture stamps – Woodgrain and Stone.  Stone was stamped in Wendy Vecchi’s Orange Blossom Archival Ink.    The Woodgrain was stamped in Ranger’s Coffee Archival Ink.  I then inked the tag in Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  I created some “texture” to it with water droplets.  Tim Holtz Melange Tissue paper was torn and put on the edges of the tag.  The whole tag was then covered in ArtBasics Soft Matte Gel.

I stamped a DarkRoom Door Robin in Coffee Archival Ink and colored him with Weathered Wood (and water) Distress Ink.

After creating the Bird and letting the tag dry, I grabbed my embellishments:  Prima Flowers Precious Metals Henna colored flower, Tim Holtz Pen Nib, Tim Holtz Trinket Pin, Kaisercraft wooden flourish (I painted it with Dina Wakley’s White Gesso and then used Art Alchemy Acrylic Paint in Steampunk Copper), a bottle cap, a wooden spool, button, compass, and twine.  I put it all together and added the Robin and used Tim Holtz ribbon.
