Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2015 – December

Here is my December Tag for the Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2015 challenge.   I absolutely love Tim's tag but wanted to try to find a different way to use the wreath idea and try a couple of different types of backgrounds.  After a couple of false starts and some experiments with backgrounds (cork, burlap, canvas and various stencils and colors), here is the finished product!  I loved making this tag but didn't really settle on a idea until yesterday when I was re-arranging my craft room and stumbled on the Window Frame and Window Box die cut as I was putting away some other dies.  It all came together for me this morning and once I had the idea I was off and running.  Following the picture is the description of my process and what products were used to make this tag.

My background is created on sticky back canvas, colored with Ochre colored Archival Ink.  I then utilized the Tim Holtz Bricked Stencil and Aged Mahogany Distress Spray Stain to created the bricked background.  The sticky back canvas was then transferred to a #8 manila tag.  The tag was edged in Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.  I splattered a little bit of White Picket Fence Distress Paint with the Tim Holtz splatter brush on the background.  Only a little bit of it would be visible but I added some droplets toward the top and the bottom of the window.

Next was the window using the Tim Holtz Bigz Window and Window Box die.  I die cut it on Kraft-Core Nostalgic Collection #21 (dark brown)  after I sanded down the paper.  The window and window box outlines were drawn with a Black Soot Distress Marker.  A piece of vellum was used for the window.

The wreath and the window sill garland were made from the Tim Holtz paper punches.  I used laurel, juniper, and pine and cut then from sanded down Kraft-Core Nostalgic Collection colors #9, #11, and #12.  Each of the laurel,  juniper, and pine cutouts were then edged with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.  Each one was bent, crushed, or the like to give them some dimension and not lay flat.  I created a circle from from manila card stock scrap and created my wreath by piecing together the different cuts of pine, juniper, and laurel.  I wanted to add some lift to the wreath which is why I did not glue it to the window frame.  I repeated the process for the garland but used the window box as the base for the garland.  I used Cranberry Stickles for the berries on the laurel.  the Tim Holtz Sizzix Movers & Shapers Mini Cardinal and Poinsettia was used for the poinsettias.  The poinsettias are cut from Kraft-Core Nostalgic Collection #4 and Classic Collection #28.  The paper was sanded down before it was die cut and then each die cut was edged in Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.  I used Mini Prills in the color Spruce Willis for the centers of the poinsettias.  Jingle Brads by Tim Holtz (with the brad parts trimmed off) were used to add embellishment to the wreath and garland.

The "Merry & Bright" was created with black cardstock, Tim Holtz Scribbly Christmas #249 stamp, Wendy Vecchi's Red Geranium Embossing Powder, Versa Mark pad, Versa Mark pen, and Ranger's Princess Gold Embossing Powder.

The small bow for the wreath was die cut from Tim Holtz Sizzlits Decorative Strip (Bow-Tied).  The paper color is from Kraft-Core Nostalgic Collection #4.  The paper was sanded and then edged with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.  The Tim Holtz tiny attacher was used to hold the bow together.

I used Finnabair Snowflake Paste for the snowy effect.   And, finally, an Aged Mahogany Distress Ink colored Crinkle Ribbon tie for the tag.
