Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2016 – Tech Remix (September)

Okay, sometimes you just have to work with your shortcomings and do your best to improve…

The Tim Holtz tech remix for this month involved Paint Patina and Alcohol Ink Resist (but with a twist – using the new Yupo paper). I will be the first to admit that I struggle with both of these techniques. Patience is not a virtue that I have for some of the patina technique. And for the Alcohol Ink Resist it’s almost enough for me to start drinking hard liquor. I keep practicing though and I didn’t give up on this month’s challenge. And no liquor was involved!!

I started off with the Patina backgrounds and played around with several different combinations. It took 14 tries before I got the one I wanted. Here’s a quick look at the first 13…

Here is #14 before I put all of the stuff on it. I love Cracked Pistachio and Ground Espresso!

Next was the Yupo paper and alcohol inks. I love the patterns you can create with the alcohol inks and the Yupo paper. The resist part, however, proved to be difficult for me. I tried and failed multiple times during Creative Chemistry 103. Failed. Miserably. Despite my “bad tag” for that CC103 class, I moved on to the next class. However, this month and by accident I figured out my downfall. While working on this tag I kept watching the Creative Chemistry class to try and figure out what I was doing wrong. I tried the resist with a paper towel and a soft towel. I changed my ink colors. I changed my stamps. I walked away from it for a while. The last go at it, however, I couldn’t find my towel and I reached for a clean alcohol ink blending tool pad and it worked beautifully!!! So, my cobweb is the first go!! Whoooo hoooo! I guess the paper towel and the hand towel weren’t soft enough.

So, after a few hits and many misses, here is my tag for September! Another month of hand stitching – I wanted it wonky because it’s a Halloween tag and things are always a bit off-kilter for Halloween. I think I’m going to ask for a sewing machine from Santa…

Happy September!
