We have officially moved into the “Christmas season” at our house but I had one more Autumn/Thanksgiving project to make this weekend. The current challenge on the Frilly and Funky blog is a Bountiful Harvest. The challenge is generously sponsored by the Funkie Junkie Boutique. To be honest, I was really pushing it this holiday week with all of the baking for Thanksgiving and then decking the house and my office with Christmas trees and garland. I think I will be wearing glitter for the next month after putting up 20+ garlands and 10+ trees. So it was a bit of a relief to work with some of the rich hues of autumn for this project.
For this project I decided to do a mosaic of the deer and then glitter his antlers. I admit that while I like the mosaic stuff I tend not to used it very often because it isn’t a technique that you see very often really. I also used the metallic kraft-core which isn’t a norm for me. I wanted to see what happened when I put a sanding block to it and then some ink – it’s a bit of a scratched, rustic look. I also decided on some backgrounds with the texture fades/embossing folders which is also a technique that I tend not to use very often. So it seems I went for things in my craft room that don’t really get used very much! And, then I played with ink – lots of ink to get the color combinations for the leaves.
In the end, I decided to leave the Graphic 45 window shadow box black. I was worried that if I added anything to it the effect of the deer, leaves, and copper colored paper would be lost. I also thought about putting some decorative legs on the bottom but since I was hemming and hawing over it I decided it was best to leave them off for now. I can always add them later.
As we say goodbye to autumn, I hope everyone had a safe, happy, and lovely holiday weekend and here’s to good wishes for a stress-free December! One can always hope right?

01-Dec-16 2:49 AMAutumn, I love that luscious pile of leaves in the center of your piece. It makes me feel like taking a running leap into the center of it like I did when I was a kid. I'm very taken with the sanded metallic kraft core technique. It looks like old tarnished metal, and that's a very good thing indeed. Such a lovely project! Thanks for sharing with us at the Frilly and Funkie Bountiful Harvest Challenge!
