It’s Not Easy Being Green!

I didn’t think I was going to be able to get this challenge done. That is, until my flight got cancelled. Play day in my craft room instead of working!! The challenge for the Frilly & Funkie Challenge was in honor of Earth Day. It’s Not Easy Being Green challenge is sponsored by The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

I decided that this challenge would be to use some random things in my craft room: an empty Hershey’s chocolate bar box that for some reason had not made it to the recycle bin despite it being empty since January; scrap pieces that were about ready to go into the recycle because there were way too many; and the “leftovers” in a mason jar on my craft room table. The little mason jar gets the things that are broken, messed up, or is the only-one-left trinket. After several months or so, the mason jar gets dumped and it was time. And, jackpot! My beloved changed his watch band last night so I pulled it out of the trash can in his office. And figured I would try to work with time.

To break it down….are my recycled bits:

• the “faux canvas” is the bottom of the Hershey’s box with 5 coats of gesso to cover up the nutrition facts wording on it; brushed the Tea Dye Distress Ink pad on it;
• the watch band was obviously distressed by normal wear and tear but I did use Espresso Alcohol Ink on the clasp and a little bit of Rust Mica Powder to dull down the band
• the watch face and jeweled bit was from a previous project but I broke it. There is a flower I cut out accidentally when I tried to cut off the top ring; when I initially put it together and before I broke it when I put the plastic top on it I used dots so it has a bit of a blue speckle but now I look at it and think it gives a bit of reflection to it
• the leaves and flower were left over from a project in January;
• the clock metal clock face was also in the mason jar having had its clasp cut off;
• a random twine bow in the mason jar;
• a button, butterfly, and filigree from the Funkie Junkie gift bags;
• a left over piece of ribbon and some leftover twine;
• the clock face ephemera (the part that’s covered up happened to get stamped on when I wasn’t paying attention and put down a stamp on it);
• the scrap paper pieces were from the scrap bin; I edged them in Tea Dye and Gathered Twigs Distress Inks.

Here is the new stuff:

• the filigree for the watch and the word saying.

I hope this inspires you to keep some of those well-loved but messed up tidbits and use them for a project some day!
