Going Round in Circles

Going Round in Circles - details (1 of 6)Hello! We’ve definitely fallen into autumn! The leaves are yellow and you can hear the crackling of them blowing along the ground when the wind blows. The days are a comfortable temperature but it’s definitely cooler. I’ve been trying to enjoy this weather because before I know it I will be dragging out jackets, mittens, hats, and scarfs. After two weeks away from my craft room I made a return this weekend! Yea!! This weekend I worked on the current challenge for the Frilly and Funkie Blog – Going Round in Circles. The challenge is sponsored by The Funkie Junkie Boutique. […]

Things With Wings – Time

Hello! I’m back in my craft room after a lovely vacation to England with my beloved. It was nice to get away and take a break from work but it is always good to come home! The change of scenery gave me some great ideas for future projects but right now I’ve been working on the current challenge on the Frilly & Funkie Blog – Things With Wings. The hostess of the challenge, Pamellia, wanted to see projects with wings and encouraged us to use our imagination. The challenge is generously sponsored by the Funkie Junkie Boutique. […]

A Steampunk Floral Infatuation

Flowered Halloween hat (1 of 4)So, I had a long, ugly week at work this week. To add to it, the weather was grey and rainy and dark. A round of hail took out all of my flowers that were just starting to bounce back after the last two previous bad hailstorms. There was snow on the mountain tops and, to top it all off, there are some trees that have started to show a bit of autumn yellowing. <head shake> […]

Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2016 – Tech Remix (August 2016)

I know it’s only August but I went to October for this tag! The two techniques that are part of the August version of the 12 Tags of 2016 involve Brayered Stains and Frameworks. This month’s tag was inspired by some of the new Tim Holtz Halloween goodies that I ordered and arrived earlier this week. There are some lovely papers in the new paper stash – I love the woodgrain and the orange/black flourish papers. When I started this tag I really wasn’t sure where it was going to go. I started with my crosshatch and then made by background to match what I used for the crosshatch. Of course I then felt like – now what? And, that’s when I noticed it had a bit of a darker feel – reminding me of Halloween. So, that’s the direction I went. And, more hand stitching! I also decided to outline the crosshatch with a Distress Marker to give it a bit more of a defined edge but nothing too thick. I also pulled out the Marker Spritzer to get some small spritzes in there which I think added to the background and gave some additional unintended grunginess to the mirrored crosshatches. […]

By the Sea, Summertime Fun, and Add Some Texture

By the sea (1 of 12)Hello! I hope everyone is enjoying the last days of summer. August always starts to signal the beginning stages of autumn for me even though I know we have a couple more months to go before the leaves turn, the weather turns, and pumpkins are ready for harvesting! August for me also ushers in counting down the days to our vacation (and our wedding anniversary). This year we will head over the pond to England. While there we usually stop by and spend some time at the sea (usually the North Sea which is a tad bit cold but the fish and chips at the Magpie in Whitby are the bestest and the only ones I will eat). I love sitting by the sea and watching the people and the waves crash along the coast. Since I live where I’m a teensy bit landlocked (okay, a lot landlocked) the sea is an amazing thing to me. There is just something mesmerizing and relaxing about it. […]

Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2016 – Tech Remix (July)

Moments in Love tag - Tim HoltzTime for the latest in the 12 tags of 2016 – a mix of Layered Words and Watercolor Resist. I had a hard time deciding which stamp to use for this one but I finally chose the bunch of roses from the Lady Rose set. Pulled out my distress pens and watercolor pen/brush and away I went. I wound up stamping twice having used a lighter color for the initial stamping and then a darker color after the watercolor dried. I decided I wanted the whole thing to look a little more vintage and so I hand-stitched the watercolor to the tag and used several strands of DMC thread. Even using the Tim Holtz ruler it’s still a bit hard to get the lines exactly straight but it is far better than me eyeballing it! […]
