The challenge at Frilly & Funkie this go round is “All in the Family.” The challenge is sponsored by the Funkie Junkie Boutique. As soon as I saw it I knew what I wanted to do and embarked on a two week long crafting project. While I mainly worked on it on the weekends, I think I’ll be cleaning up and putting stuff away in my craft room for a while yet! There are multiple pictures so the post is a bit photo heavy. […]
READ MOREOkay, so it’s definitely a heat wave here! Today was a bit of a struggle since it was so hot that my brain was just not working. I thought I might start the project for the current challenge on the Frilly & Funkie Blog – Pastels and Pearls. The challenge is sponsored by The Funkie Junkie Boutique. When I kept hitting a wall on what to do, I just took a break from my craft room and figured I had next week and weekend to work on it. So, I decided to check out some of my favorite blogs and just veg out. […]
READ MOREThis month’s Tim Holtz tag (12 tags of 2016: June) involved two techniques – tissue wrap and plaid. I tried to create two plaids for one image in an attempt to create the color difference and depth. I used the dress form die cut and then utilized a combination of Wilted Violet and Worn Lipstick for the “body” part of the dress form and a combination of Walnut Stain and Wild Honey for the “wooden pieces” of the dress form. With some creative masking involving the 3M Masking Tape Post-It roll I managed it after a couple of tries. As Tim suggested we should try some sewing, I whipped out my high tech needle and thread and hand-stitched the thread and then left the needle in the bottom part since the point of the tag is handmade clothing. I think I will ask Santa for a sewing machine for Christmas! […]
READ MOREI was fiddling around with the “plastic bag” inking technique and decided to make a second tag this weekend. Over the last couple of weeks I’ve seen postings on various blogs using this technique so I decided to try it. It’s way too warm here today to go outside and play so I tucked into my craft room, window open, fan on high, and started. […]
READ MOREBy chance, this week’s tag is being submitted for two challenge blogs. That wasn’t the intent when I started out but that’s how it ended! […]
READ MOREThe challenge for the Frilly & Funkie challenge blog was a look at “Oh, the Places You Will Go.” The challenge is generously sponsored by the Funkie Junkie Boutique. After some fits and starts on this tag, I wound up doing the flip side of it. I was rather tired after having run a half marathon and then driving home so it was ironic that I landed on the theme of “going home.” While we go on vacation, journeys, and adventures we always want to come home. When I go on vacation we have many little adventures and, usually, the journey is rather far from home there is truly nothing like coming home. It’s nice to have a bit of normalcy and familiarity not to mention curling up in your own bed! I also thought of all of those who travel for work and look forward to coming home to family. My beloved does a lot of traveling and he is always happy to come home. So, we go to many places but we always go to our favorite place -- home. […]
READ MOREThe Tim Holtz tag for this month combined techniques using tissue tape resist and tattered florals. In my experiments with this tag I wound up with color choices I would not normally use but seeing as spring has finally sprung around here it is appropriate! I even used some of the absolutely amazing lace we bought when we visited Belgium in April. We found a lovely little shop in Bruges near the lace museum and I bought some small pieces to use on projects. This little shop was well off the main streets and the owner is a skilled bobbin lace maker. I didn’t realize that I would be able to use my little “real” lace so soon! So here is my tech remix for May... […]

READ MOREI didn’t think I was going to be able to get this challenge done. That is, until my flight got cancelled. Play day in my craft room instead of working!! The challenge for the Frilly & Funkie Challenge was in honor of Earth Day. It’s Not Easy Being Green challenge is sponsored by The Funkie Junkie Boutique. […]
READ MOREAfter a long week at work, Friday evening and Saturday were a creative break. No challenges, no scrapbook pages, no reorganizing the craft room this weekend because about a month ago I signed up for 3 classes at my local scrapbooking store. It was part of my birthday present from my beloved. So, off I went to class late afternoon on Friday…and what a hoot of a time I had over the next 36 hours! The class was taught by the Ice Prince, John Creighton Peterson, from Imagine Crafts, Ice Resin, Authentique, and Prima. I spent hours playing with Staz-On Inks, Black Gesso, and Ice Resin. I learned a ton of new techniques and dabbled a bit more in the mica powders and acrylic paints and mica powders offered by Finnabair. We spent time with different texture pastes and stencils including the Graphite texture paste. And, to be able to make my own texture paste using the new Finnabair texture paste and mix it with the acrylic paints was awesome! The colors in the acrylic paints are stunning and to be able to make it into a texture paste just opens up more doors of possibility! […]
